songs for creative inspiration

Posted in music by amanda s on April 8, 2010

everyone has a handful of inspirational songs that, whether it be a melody, lyrics, tone or even the title, one may find this song inspirational to them in their writing. i comprised a playlist on my itunes with such songs and i hope that you (the reader) may follow suit or share your own batch of songs. without further ado, here are fifteen songs in no particular order:

1. sparklehorse- sea of teeth
can you feel the wind of venus on your skin?

2. manchester orchestra- the river
i think i know you best when i sleep, i think i know everything

3. cole porter- in the still of the night
as i gaze out the window at the moon in its flight, my thoughts all stray to you.

4. smashing pumpkins- perfect
strangers down the line, lovers out of time, memories unwind

5. autolux- asleep at the trigger
you miss everything that’s in your way, you miss everything that’s good for you

6. broken social scene- lover’s spit
they listen to teeth to learn how to quit, tied to a night they never met

7. bikini kill-tammy rae
i know it’s cold outside but when we’re together i got nothing to hide

8. neil young- harvest moon (covered by kevin devine)
when we were strangers, i watched you from afar. and when we were lovers, i loved you with all my heart

9. santo & johnny- sleep walk (covered by betsy brye)
sleep talk because i miss you, i sleep talk while the memory of you lingers like a song

10. tegan & sara- nineteen
i felt you in my legs before i ever met you

11. blind pilot- 3 rounds and a sound
now i see you till kingdom come, you’re the one i want to see me for all the stupid shit i’ve done

12. kevin devine- ball game
a good man doesn’t drink, but i’ve been drinking alone, so what does that make me?

13. beck- broken drum
your setting sun, your broken drums, your little drugs, i’ll never forget you

14. ben gibbard- farmer chords
it will feel like home no matter how far you’ll be from my lonely arms

15. manchester orchestra- i can feel a hot one
and i realized that then you were perfect, with my teeth ripping out of my head.

G56w1CzG7ovpdcvx5Lsv4Zapo1_400one of my favorite silent films. it’s so surreal and i love that the Smashing Pumpkins allude to the film in their music video for “Tonight, Tonight”:

(PS – i am a Smashing Pumpkins fanatic! just so you know.)
